What's included

Charging at home is the cheap, boring way to run an EV — plug in at night, leave with a full battery. The install itself is proper electrical work: a high-load circuit running for hours at a time, where the earthing and protection have to be exactly right. Here's what you get:

  • A proper look at your supply first — main fuse, earthing arrangement, spare capacity. Measured, not guessed.
  • The charger, supplied and fitted — every major brand: Zappi, Ohme, Hypervolt, Easee, Wallbox and the rest.
  • Tethered or untethered — we’ll help you pick, and won’t pretend one is “premium”.
  • A dedicated circuit with the right protection, run neatly to where the charger lives — clipped, concealed where possible, never draped.
  • Load management set up, so charging backs off automatically when the house is working hard.
  • Commissioning and app setup, with a walkthrough before we leave.
  • An Electrical Installation Certificate for the new circuit. Keep it — it matters when you sell.

Load management, in plain English

A charger can pull 32 amps for hours — on top of the shower, the oven and everything else in the house. Load management puts a small sensor on your incoming supply and turns the charger down when the house needs the headroom, then back up when it doesn't. It's how a 7kW charger lives happily on a normal domestic supply.

If your supply genuinely needs upgrading, the survey will catch it and we'll set out your options before anything is booked — not spring it on you mid-install.

How the install goes

  1. Photos first

Send photos of your fuse board, your meter and where you'd like the charger. Usually that's enough to quote from.

  2. Fixed quote

Unit, cable run, protection and certification — itemised in writing, so you can compare it fairly.

  3. Install and handover

Most installs take a day or less. Tested, commissioned, app set up, certificate issued — ask anything before we go.

Signs it’s time

Any of these sound familiar? A home charger pays you back in saved time before it pays you back in money — and it does both.

  • There’s an EV or plug-in hybrid on the drive — or one on order
  • You’re still planning your week around public chargers
  • You’re charging through a 3-pin plug — fine occasionally, not as a way of life
  • You’ve moved to an EV tariff and want the cheap overnight rate doing the work

EV charger questions, answered straight

How long does an EV charger installation take?

Most home installs are done within a day — often a morning if the cable run is short. Long or awkward runs (a charger on a detached garage, say) can take longer, and the quote will say so up front. Power is only off briefly while we make the final connection.

Tethered or untethered — which should I get?

Tethered means the cable lives on the unit: walk out, plug in, done. Untethered is just a socket — neater on the wall, works with any cable, and doesn’t date if you change car. Neither is wrong. Tell us how you park and how patient you are on a rainy Tuesday, and the answer picks itself.

Will my fuse board cope with a charger?

That’s what the survey answers before anything is booked. The charger needs its own circuit with the right protection — sometimes there’s room in your existing board, sometimes we add a small enclosure beside it. If the board itself is old or tired, we’ll tell you straight; see our consumer unit page for what that involves.

Do I have to have a smart charger?

Yes — UK regulations require new home charge points to be smart, so charging can shift to off-peak times. Every unit we fit complies. In practice it’s the good bit: smart scheduling plus an EV tariff is where the cheap miles come from.

Where can the charger go?

Almost anywhere sensible on an outside wall or in a garage — close to where you actually park. What matters: cable reach to your car’s charge port, the route back to the fuse board, and keeping the unit away from anything it shouldn’t live next to. We agree the exact spot before quoting, so there are no surprises on the day.

Which brand should I choose?

We fit all the major brands — Zappi, Ohme, Hypervolt, Easee, Wallbox and others — and we’re not tied to any of them. Tell us what matters to you (solar compatibility, the app, looks, budget) and you’ll get an honest steer, not a sales pitch.
